IDEMTIDAD

Idemtidad is a project that proposes the use of digital technologies like 3D printing to explore, reinterpret and carry the message of cultural identity that is immerse within craftsmanship

Colombia is a country with a strong and powerful history of cultural mixing. The encounter of cultures, races, traditions, cosmovisions and religions have given this country one of the most powerful assets: Diversity as identity.

The most tangible representation of all of this cultural heritage and diversity are crafts, where hundreds of women and men from different backgrounds create pieces that show their vision of the world, using knowledge that has been passed through generations.

Craftsmanship fulfills a crucial function in the preservation and manifestation of cultural identity. Hence its relevance increases today as it helps preserving the culture of different ethnic groups in the midst of industrialization and globalization.

The IDEMTIDAD project proposes the use of Digital manufacturing technologies to explore, reinterpret and carry the message of cultural identity that is immerse within craftsmanship.

To that end, a co-design project is developed along with Master craftsman Miguel De La Cruz, from the city of Pasto (Colombia), with whom a 3DTeca (3D library) and a final piece are created, combining 3D printing and the traditional craft of straw marquetry, with the objective of establishing the base and showing the mutual benefits that arise from this hybrid territory.

IDEMTIDAD was showcased at the Milano Design Week 2022 as part of the "I Figli di Macondo" exhibition, an initiative supported by the Colombian Embassy in Italy, The Colombian Consulate of Milan and The Comune di Milano.
